Our Open Days need you!

We are holding three Open Days this autumn and are looking for staff to volunteer for a number of roles.

Open Days are the cornerstone of our undergraduate home/EU recruitment at Leicester, with more than 6,000 prospective students and 14,000 total visitors in attendance each year.

Our staff are absolutely vital to the ongoing success of our Open Days, with the friendliness of our staff being one of the most important aspects in visitors’ experience. The interactions visitors have with staff on the day make a huge difference to their enjoyment of the Open Day and ultimately to the likelihood of them applying to Leicester.

We will be holding our three remaining undergraduate Open Days this year on Friday 15 September, Saturday 16 September and Saturday 21 October.

Working on an Open Day means that you will be directly assisting with undergraduate recruitment to the University. They are a rewarding and fun way to spend a day, and provide you with a chance to meet and interact with prospective students first-hand.

More than 40 people from across our professional services worked on the July Open Day, but we need additional help for the busier Open Days in September and October. If you are free on any of the above dates, please consider volunteering to work on an Open Day. Similarly, if you line-manage staff in your team, please encourage them to volunteer where appropriate.

What are typical staff roles on an Open Day?

  • Registration desk
  • Lecture Theatre stewarding
  • Information points
  • Welcome team at Leicester Racecourse park and ride

Academic departments will tend to organise their staff to volunteer for student facing activities, and these key interactions are vitally important in enthusing prospective students about their time here. We would encourage all our academics to get involved.

How to get involved

  • Confirm with your line manager that they are happy for you to work the Open Day. If this is for a Saturday Open Day, confirm your time off in lieu arrangement with your line manager.
  • Contact Nick Cave nlc13@le.ac.uk in the Student Recruitment Office to register your availability.
