With the Open Day on Saturday fast approaching, we wanted to let you know what's happening on this incredibly important day.

Our final Open Day for 2018 takes place this Saturday 17 November from 10am-3pm. For this Open Day, our main activity hub, 'Mission Control' will be located in the Charles Wilson Sports Hall.

As of this morning, there are currently 1,920 bookings for Saturday which should equate to approximately 2,000-2,200 visitors on campus for the Open Day.

On-Campus activity

The final programme for the day can be found here and provides details on the wide range of departmental and general activity taking place across campus. We’ll have staff in each building directing visitors to lecture theatres, ensuring talks run on time and to assist visitors with any queries.

The Charles Wilson Sports Hall will house ‘Mission Control’ which contains registration, free refreshments plus the information fair. Free tea and coffee and bottles of water will be available for all staff members taking part, with assigned ambassadors looking after each section to be on hand to keep areas tidy and assist staff.

Music across campus is provided by the Galaxy Radio student group and we are in the final stages of confirming the student groups who will be taking part in the event with the Students’ Union following up enquiries.

Catering outlets across campus will all be open throughout the day with free teas and coffees for visitors served in the sports hall (ready to be served from 9am), outside the Peter Williams Lecture Theatre (ready to be served from 9.30am) and in the Bennett building lower ground floor (ready to be served from 9.30am).

Logistics and campus cleanliness

Campus Services have been conducting walk-arounds of the site for the past two weeks. Department contacts have been reminded of locations of talks, times of the Information Fair, and booking numbers for their subjects and will be provided a final update on Friday.

Visitor arrivals

Parking

All parking (aside from for disabled visitors who are able to park on campus in the Sports Centre car park) will be at Leicester Racecourse and all AA signs direct visitors there from the motorways and main A roads into the city. Visitors can register their attendance at the Racecourse. Shuttle buses will operate from 8.30am-3.30pm and depart/drop off on University Road near to Mayor’s Walk, where they will be greeted by a team of student ambassadors and guided to the Mission Control in the Charles Wilson Sports Hall for their gift bag and free teas/coffees.

Trains

A staff member will accompany student ambassadors to the train station to ensure they are prominent and providing good customer service. They will be at the station from 8am-1pm and will also greet visitors arriving on replacement bus services (for visitors travelling North from London using East Midlands Trains) outside the station too.

Staff and student briefings

We have been holding training sessions with student ambassadors and have reiterated the need for professionalism and high customer service. They will also be given a pre-event briefing via email as well as on the morning of the event.

Staff working on the day will all receive a pre-event briefing to cover all activity, customer service, role definition for the day as well as a reiteration on the importance of Open Days towards meeting recruitment targets.

Thank you to everyone who has been involved in putting together this great occasion which will showcase the best of Leicester and look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
