The University of Leicester has a longstanding commitment to widening participation, with longstanding success in recruiting students from disadvantaged background. As a university we invest significant time and resources in outreach events and other initiatives to combat educational inequalities.

The Widening Participation Awards recognise those staff members and students who have organised exceptional widening participation activities or have gone above and beyond to inspire or support learners from disadvantaged backgrounds. They will be presented by the University’s Widening Participation Lead, Professor Emma Smith, at the Widening Participation Summit on the 21 March at College Court.

All university staff members and students are invited to nominate people to receive a Widening Participation Award. To nominate someone, please email Will Cooling at by 16th March with a short paragraph to explain why you believe their work should be recognised.
