David G Lambert, Professor of Anaesthetic Pharmacology in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences, has been appointed Director of the Doctoral College at the University of Leicester.

As academic lead for the Doctoral College, Dave will be supported by the Doctoral College Team, and will play a key role in targeting opportunities, both national and international, for building Leicester’s studentship and fellowship portfolio, and allocating central funding for strategic initiatives. The new role also incorporates the function of the Graduate Dean.

The Graduate School Office (now the Doctoral College Office) will remain within Student and Academic Services, and will continue to manage core administrative processes relating to research students from the point of registration through to graduation.

Speaking about the role of the Doctoral College, Dave said: "The Doctoral College will ensure that researchers across different stages of the research career stay at the very heart of the University’s intellectual endeavour. We will be evidencing and celebrating the contribution that postgraduate researchers and research staff make to the University’s research portfolio."

Professor Iain Gillespie, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise has backed the approach, stating: "The more outward-facing and strategically oriented Doctoral College is key to realising our research ambitions. As it takes shape there will be an improvement to the career development of our researchers, as we nurture and grow the next generation of research leaders, and we will be able to roll-out an integrated solution to document and support the postgraduate research journey."

The Doctoral College will officially launch on Tuesday 26 September and we will be publishing more information next week.
