Learning and Teaching focused events taking place in January

To help you get the new year off to a great start the Leicester Learning Institute and partners will be running a series of Learning and Teaching focused events in January to stimulate your practice.

Focus on: Learning and Teaching

On the 5th - 6th January we’ll be holding two days of themed activities:

  • Workshop on in-class engagement with feedback, Tuesday 5 January 2016, 10.30am - 12.30pm
Discover different feedback approaches from across the institution and apply to your own context.
  • Technology Enhanced Learning forum, Tuesday 5 January 2016, 1.00 - 2.00pm
A meeting for all staff with an interest in Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). The TEL Forum enables people to share information and best practice and provides a hub for discussion and dissemination of key issues.
  • Symposium: Just what goes on in 'guided independent study'?, Tuesday 5 January 2016, 2.15 - 4.30pm
This symposium will provide an opportunity to explore the project findings of a University of Leicester study into students study outside of the classroom and how they can be used to inform the review and redesign of the University’s entire degree programmes.
  • Supporting Students through Pathways, Wednesday 6 January 2016, 10.00am - 4.00pm
The day will focus on how we can best support students through their first year on the new Pathways programmes in 2016-17.

Find out more about these events and sign-up on the Leicester Learning Institute website. Please sign-up before the 22nd December.

The Future of the Digital Student

One day conference on 21st January 2016, in partnership with the College of Science and Engineering and Wiley Publishing.

Participants will discuss the use of technology in education, new innovations in apps, e-assessment & pedagogy and how technology could be incorporated in teaching in the future.

The conference will include a workshop on Digital Student Personas, run by Deborah Egleton from Wiley and a keynote speech by Joel Mills from the University of Hull discussing the future of gamified learning through their work with Minecraft.

There will also be parallel case study workshops in the afternoon, and app stands to explore during lunch. The day will conclude with a group discussion of potential collaborative projects for the next year. There will be a second workshop in a year’s time to report back on progress on our projects, and to try to draw in a wider group of people to this interesting activity.

The event will be held at the University of Leicester’s College Court and is free to members of staff from Wiley and the University of Leicester and £40 for external visitors. This covers lunch and refreshments.

Registration is available via the University of Leicester eShop. Places are limited due to the size of the venue so do not delay if you would like to attend.

Visit the event webpage for more information.
