Leicester Innovation Hub update

Following the formal launch of our new innovation hub, this update will give you more information about our new approach to business engagement.

Since its launch this year following a successful ERDF funding bid the Leicester Innovation Hub has gone from strength to strength.

The Leicester Innovation Hub was created to provide a front door for the businesses-facing activities of the University, allowing our academic and research staff to develop new opportunities for strong partnerships with business and industry.

What will the hub do?

Help enable innovation locally, nationally and internationally by bringing together academics and industry partners. It will support initiatives such as the REF, build relationships with industry partners for future research bids and initiate engagement with the InnovateUK funding portfolio (including KTPs).

A new programme of events is due to be published early in 2018 but in the meantime, our Free Cake Fridays (drop in on last Friday of the month from 10am-4pm) are open to anyone who wants to visit, grab something to eat and strike up a conversation.

Thanks to the ERDF funding we are offering free work space to selected graduate start-up businesses in our ‘hatchery’ alongside a new business support programme. We also offer direct interventions to SMEs to aid innovation and Innovation Vouchers that allow businesses to tap into academic consultancy and MPhil funding (the Company pays the student fee and the grant pays the student).

Our facilities

It is co-located with the Leicester Institute of Advanced Studies, our award-winning CAMEo research institute as well as the East Midlands Centre for Excellence in Satellite Applications and an ASDEC office.

The Innovation Hub offers bookable and supported space for academics to meet with businesses to explore possible collaborations. There is a social area, a board room style meeting room (with a capacity of 10-12) and a lecture theatre style room (with a capacity of approximately 25). 128 Regent Road will add more and larger meeting spaces in the mix.
