Leicester City victory parade this Monday

On Monday 16 May, Leicester come together to celebrate the historic achievement of Leicester City football club winning their first ever Premier League title.

The open top bus parade and celebration in Victoria Park is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime event happening right on our doorstep and we’d encourage everyone who can to support the team and get involved in the celebrations.

The celebrations will begin in Jubilee Square in the city centre at 5pm and from 6pm an open-top bus with the players and trophy will make its way through the City up High Street, Gallowtree Gate, Halford Street, Charles Street and London Road, culminating in a huge party in Victoria Park, right next to our campus, from 7pm to late.

Traffic congestion

Previous experience of these type of events has shown us that there will be an impact on traffic. For the parade, London Road will be closed from 6pm and Victoria Park Road will be closed from Queens Road up to London Road all day. Parking on surrounding streets will be suspended throughout the day. Buses that usually travel along London Road will be re-routed.

We have made alternative arrangements for staff who normally have North Campus car parks permits to use the Brookfield car park. Brookfield Car Park will be open until 10pm to North Campus and Brookfield permit holders only. De Montfort Hall Car Park will be closing 30 minutes earlier at 5.30pm.

Please be aware that around the time most people finish work (5pm) there is likely to be a lot of congestion, so please plan your journey to allow for the diversions and congestion, especially if you plan to travel through or around the city.

Exams

Exams scheduled for Monday afternoon will proceed as planned. We will monitor the noise levels in exam rooms in different parts of the campus as a result of the build-up activities on Victoria Park and if we receive reports from the invigilators that noise levels were unacceptably high this will be taken into consideration. Any questions can be directed to exams@le.ac.uk in the first instance.

The Percy Gee Building will be closing at the earlier time of 5pm on the day.

Postal Services

Due to the volume of traffic and congestion, the last postal collection from departments will be at lunchtime on Monday, in order that DHL, Parcel Force and Royal Mail can get through to main site to collect our mail.

Events/Meetings

Due to the magnitude of the event and the anticipated volume of supporters and noise that will be in evidence, you may wish to re-schedule any events/meetings you have planned, particularly  in the afternoon.

Deliveries

Please restrict all deliveries from Monday 3pm to Tuesday 10am.

We will be updating this post up until the day of the parade with up-to-date information as we receive it. For more information on everything relating to the parade please visit Leicester City Council’s dedicated webpage.
