We’re pleased to announce that the new degree, aimed specifically at U.S. students, will begin in September.

As you may know, the University of Leicester is ranked as a Top 35 Institution for Clinical Medicine according to the Shanghai Rankings. Our commitment in providing a top-quality education rests on a philosophy to focus on global ambitions. This is why we’re proud to announce the launch of the new Medicine MBChB-USA degree, which will offer U.S. citizens a chance to experience our excellent world-class medical study facilities.

The course has been created specifically for U.S. citizens and lawful permanents residents who, upon completion of the degree, will be eligible to apply for U.S. Medical Residency Positions. We offer a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree, both aligned with the U.S. embedded medical curriculum, thus enabling graduates to practice medicine in the U.S.A.

As usual, our teaching style is not just lecture-based but includes a chance to experience effective group and practical sessions. The curriculum is divided into two phases. Years 1 and 2 – the foundational phase will be based in the new £42 million George Davies Centre here at University campus. Years 3 to 5 – the clinical years – will be based in partnered U.S. hospitals, including Wheeling Hospital in West Virginia.

Professor Phillip Baker, Dean of Medicine at the University of Leicester said: “This new curriculum has been designed to meet the needs and challenges of modern healthcare. The course is patient-focused, so students will have unrivalled opportunities to work with the kind of patients that they’ll be treating throughout their careers”.
