It's the start of term!

It’s that time again as we get ready to welcome new students to the University, as well as supporting those returning to continue their studies.

What’s happened already?

New students have already received a tailored welcome pack, received a call from a current student, and been sent an email from their department explaining more about their course induction.

Welcome Weekend (22-23 September)

Most students will arrive at this time. This year there is greater activity and events on main campus to improve the student experience, including talks, an information fair, barbecue, cooking demonstrations and GP registration.

You can view the 22 September timetable and 23 September timetable online

Welcome Week (24-28 September)

Highlights of Welcome Week include Matriculation (25 September) – the formal welcome ceremony for all undergraduate students at De Montfort Hall. Students can find out which ceremony they need to attend by checking their timetable. Timetables can be viewed on the MyUoL app or MyStudentRecord.

  • Fabulous First Year (25 September) includes fun activities for students to discover University and Students’ Union activities.
  • The Students’ Group Fair is 26-28 September and Freshers’ Fair is 27-28 September.

In addition, there will be talks, a fringe arts programme, campus tours and Attenborough Arts tours. Full details can be found at

Students need to book some events in advance on our website.

Early October events

We recognise that we need to support the transition of returning students (non-first years) and have created Flourish Fair just for them – on 1 October, 10am-2pm, in the Events Square. This includes developing returning students’ study/academic skills, help with living in private accommodation, and health and wellbeing support.

The Living In Leicester Fair (3 October, 10am-2pm) – for all students – brings Leicester organisations onto campus to encourage students to explore the city.
