Leicester Actuarial Science Society presents the 4th Annual Worshipful Company of Actuaries Lecture.

On 14 February at 2.15pm in the Bennett Link Lower Ground Floor Lecture Theatre, learn more about how the Government deals with challenges ranging from managing disasters to the National Insurance Fund from Martin Clarke, the Government Actuary.

Martin has been the Government Actuary since September 2014. He is the scheme actuary for the pension schemes of public institutions including the NHS, the armed forces and MPs and is responsible for producing the quinquennial report on the National Insurance Fund. Prior to becoming the Government Actuary, Martin was the Executive Director of the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) with responsibility for investments, actuarial and financial risk. His career before the PPF was in retail financial services, including life and general insurance.

Expect to hear many examples of actuaries helping policy formation and working in non-traditional areas (some recent examples from the last Government Actuary’s Department (GAD) newsletter include working with the Centre for Global Disaster Protection, dealing with issues with ONS statistics and the quinquennial National Insurance Fund review).

The Worshipful Company of Actuaries will also be explaining their work and presenting two prizes: one each to the best performing 2nd year and 3rd year BSc Mathematics and Actuarial Science student at the University during the session. The recipients of these prizes will be announced on the day!
