Freemen’s Common update

Work due to start on the site - changes to access and parking arrangements.

We are currently awaiting planning permission for our Freemen’s Common Development project which proposes a brand new multi-purpose site including a new teaching and learning centre, student accommodation and a multi storey car park. This is part of an exciting Campus Masterplan to transform our campus over the next ten years.

Work will begin in the next couple of weeks to strip the Freemen’s Common Houses of asbestos, a step towards the project which does not require planning permission. This will enable us to progress more quickly with construction activity should we receive planning permission in the future. The team working on the project will be undertaking these critical works with full health and safety compliant procedures and monitoring, including relevant risk assessments. Fencing will be put up around the site and a new pedestrian entrance/exit will be in place for accessing the Welford Road Car Park.

Due to the works, some parking spaces on the site will be fenced off and unavailable. To off-set the loss of spaces, we will be releasing spaces on the Dry Dock site for Welford Road permit holders. Opening hours for the Dry Dock site will be 7am-7pm. A further announcement will be made when the Dry Dock space is open for use.

The access barrier into Welford Road will be reinstated w/c 12 November 2018, so if you are a permit holder please ensure you have your staff card to hand in order to access the car park. If you have a Welford Road permit your access will be automatically updated when the barriers go back into operation.
