Leicester Students’ Union is an empowering, innovative and inclusive student-led Union championing student interests and providing them with a community that is home away from home.

University life is a truly unique experience, full of great people and amazing activities. That’s why the SU is dedicated to making sure every one of the University of Leicester's 21,500 students represented embarks on a journey that is nothing short of exceptional.

Although the SU regularly collaborates with the University, it is a fully independent organisation made up of student-elected representatives that works totally and completely for students.

So whether it’s signing up to one of the 250+ student groups or boosting their CV through part-time work, training or volunteering; students can count on the SU for the support they need to adjust, advance and achieve during their studies.

Voice

The SU wants to give students the opportunity to shape the student experience at the University, both academically and in general – getting involved as much, or as little as they want. Students can help improve the quality of the academic experience through the Union Council, vote for their Executive Team representatives, start campaigns and make positive change, take part in surveys, and nominate exceptional members of staff across the University with Superstar Awards.

Opportunities

Students can meet people, make new friends and find a new hobby by joining one of the SU’s 250+ student groups and sports clubs. They can also take on life-changing experiences by taking part in volunteering and fundraising activities, supported by the SU.

Support

The SUAdvice Service provides free, impartial and confidential advice to students on a range of issues including accommodation, academic and wellbeing. Leicester Talks is a directory of support services which includes SU, University, student-led, community and online services to ensure they can find the advice that they need. The SU also runs the Peer Mentoring Scheme that helps new students settle into life at Leicester through peer support.
