We are pleased to announce that the first phase of works will be complete ready for International Welcome Week on Monday 19 September.

The project to create a new central square for the University started in May and we’re pleased to say that our new international students will be the first to be able to use it during international Welcome Week. The new square will be able to be used for major events, open days, student fairs and will create a much improved environment at the heart of our campus.

Moving from an enclosed car park to an open inviting square is part of our wider plan to create a welcoming and high quality campus, which will provide an impressive centrepiece for large events and open days, and that we believe will provide a boost for our student recruitment activities.

The square will initially host a large marquee which will be used for International Welcome Week, Freshers’ Week and other events in October.

An area on the edge of the square will remain enclosed (image above) to enable the completion of Phase II of the project which will link the main square to the paving around the library and Attenborough building.
