Donate Old Books - Homeless Outreach Book Drive

Donate your old books to the library's Reading Zone for charity between 18-20 March.

We’ve all got them, books. They sit around either taunting us for having not read them or take up valuable space. Good news though, we’ve got a solution: donate your old books to the library and help raise money for local homeless people in Leicester!

The library is joining forces with the Homeless Outreach Society and local charity The Bridge Homelessness to Help. We need your donations of good quality fiction and non-fiction books (except textbooks).

22% of Leicester's population is living in income deprived households. The Bridge supports marginalised people who often have complex multiple problems impacting their ability to find permanent homes. Some have been excluded from mainstream services or do not access them because they feel stigmatised. As a University, and as a Library, we would like to contribute positively to help improve their lives.

In 2015 the Reading Agency conducted research on the effects of reading for pleasure. It was found that reading builds empathy, reduces the symptoms of depression, improves wellbeing and relationships with others. Full report here.

Please bring your books to the Library 18-20 March between 11.00am-3.00pm.

Please do spread the word wherever you can. For more information please email: hlc48@leicester.ac.uk.
