The Lord Lieutenant’s awards for young people aim to celebrate the achievements of young people aged 13-19 in Leicester and Leicestershire.

These annual awards aim to highlight the amazing achievements of young people that often go unrecognised. This year there are five awards, which cover a range of areas, including a special award to commemorate the centenary of the First World War, inspired by the story of our very own Fielding Johnson Building.

The University of Leicester was founded nearly 100 years ago, and from 1914-19, the Fielding Johnson Building (pictured right) served as the 5th Northern General Hospital, caring for soldiers wounded in the First World War.

The categories are:

  • Young Braveheart of the Year
  • Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Young Most Improved Sports Person of the Year
  • Young Artist of the Year (The Joe Humphries Memorial Award)
  • Young Investigator of the Year.

To nominate someone for the first four awards you just need to complete the online nomination form by 31 January. The Young Investigator Award must be submitted (along with the relevant research) by 19 February.
