This year’s winner of the Valuing People Award is Dr Stacey Boldrick from the Department of Museum Studies.

Stacy was recognised for the outstanding contribution she has made to the university in developing a world-leading PGT programme of art curatorship, using experimental flair and imagination.

Her work on the course has been praised by her colleagues for its outstanding contribution to student satisfaction and preparation for work, its enhancement of an area of perceived weakness, and its real-world engagement with artists, art spaces and the public.

Working in what is a challenging area, rather than ‘just settling’, she is committed to maintaining standards which are comparable to the country’s leading contemporary art galleries thanks to her curating experience in previous roles at Tate and Fruitmarket Gallery.

She has brought artists, arts professionals and art spaces to work with students and places the students in the role of art curator, collaborating to produce annual contemporary art exhibitions for the public. This real world exercise establishes professional ways of working for our students, and gives them the chance to display their work publicly and gain vital experience which would be difficult to gain anywhere else.

She adheres to the ethos of experimentation and risk-taking as a professional choice, making it a source of excitement and fun rather than anxiety. Stacy is a generous colleague, unfailingly ensuring that she publicly thanks artists and gallery practitioners and most crucially recognising and valuing the contributions and hard work of all her students, professional service and academic colleagues.
