We have appointed Dr Kate Williams to this newly created role to help deliver our ambitious plans to celebrate and champion equality and diversity at the University.

We are committed to ensuring that everyone is able to contribute to our shared success through a culture that not only respects but values and celebrates difference.

We are a member of the Equality Challenge Unit, one of only ten University partners in the UN’s HeForShe gender equality campaign, a Stonewall Diversity Champion and have been awarded an Athena Swan Bronze Award.

In order to aid and strengthen this vital work, we have appointed Dr Kate Williams from Health Sciences to the role of Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor (Equality and Diversity).

Mark Peel, Provost, said: “We should all be delighted to have such a talented, dynamic and energetic individual taking up this role.

“Many colleagues will know of Kate’s work on equality initiatives, including Athena Swan, in her own and other colleges. I think we can look forward to really exciting progress in a range of areas over the next two years.”

Kate said: “Through this role I hope to continue to develop a culture where equality is practiced and diversity is valued, championing the University’s commitment to embed the principles of equality and diversity across all aspects of our work.

“I hope this will contribute to a workplace that attracts, retains and nurtures the very best staff and students and that our community will continue to view diversity as a strength that adds value to our culture and success. I look forward to working with you across the university to this end.”
