Decolonising the Vikings: Midlands Viking Symposium 2019

This year’s symposium will take place at the University on Saturday 27 April.

Founded in 2005, the Midlands Viking Symposium is an annual one-day event presenting the latest findings in Viking Research. We’re pleased to announce that this year’s festival will take place the University – tickets are available and can be purchased here and registration closes on the 23 April.

This year’s theme is Decolonising the Vikings. Speakers will address the portrayal of Vikings in popular media, including the 2013 television show, Vikings. Other topics include:

  • Concepts of nationalism, ethnicity and gender.
  • The (mis)use of Vikings in contemporary politics.

Tickets cost £12 and include the full day’s programme, food/beverage refreshments, and wine reception.

The event is sponsored by Leicestershire Archaeological and Historical Society and Viking Society for Northern Research.

Time: 9.00am-6.30pm

Location: 4th floor – Charles Wilson Building.
