Could you become a Study Buddy for refugees and asylum seekers? - Discover more Friday 8 December

We’re looking for study buddies to help refugees and asylum seekers to settle into Leicester life.

Many refugees and asylum seekers were not able to finish their studies at home, and are not able to attend universities in the UK for a variety of reasons. Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) are an opportunity for refugees and asylum seekers to learn and discover more. Anyone can take part in a MOOC for free and those who complete the course gain academic credits which can potentially lead on to further education.

For many refugees and asylum seekers however studying, even accessible courses like MOOCs, in an unfamiliar environment, using unfamiliar technology and an unfamiliar language can seem intimidating. In order to aid asylum seekers and refugees to navigate MOOCs, we are looking to pair individuals with a ‘Study Buddy’ who will help them to learn and flourish in their new life in the UK.

The Study Buddy project is part of our overall ambition to become recognised as a University of Sanctuary.

If you would like to volunteer your time to help refugees rebuild their lives in Leicester, come along to the Belvoir City Lounge on the second floor of the Charles Wilson Building on Friday 8 December. This informal discussion will allow to find out how you can get involved and will take place 4.30pm - 5.30pm.

If you would like to attend, please let Pascale Roussel know so that a suitable amount of mince pies can be provided.
