As part of our work to be a good neighbour and responsible citizens, the University is applying to be a University of Sanctuary, helping refugees and displaced people to better themselves. The following events support our work to become a University of Sanctuary and we encourage you to attend them.

Growing Points Event: 24 January

We’re holding an event with Growing Points – a small registered charity which supports people from excluded communities to achieve their ambitions. They can offer people from across the University to act as guardians and support refugees in their professional development

They have successful operations in Leeds Sheffield and Hull and now want to build a Growing Points community in Leicester!

The event, held on 24 January from 4-5.30pm in the Charles Wilson Belvoir Park Lounge is NOT limited to University of Leicester staff. You can come for part of the event if you can’t make the full 1.5 hours.

Please register your interest by sending an e mail to pr128@le.ac.uk. If you cannot attend but would like to know more, please contact pr128@le.ac.uk

Altered Landscapes: 6 January-25 February

The University is supporting the Altered Landscapes exhibition by Juan DeGado. Running from 6 January-25 February at Attenborough Arts Centre, the photography exhibition showcases the journey of refugees fleeing war-torn countries. From ports, to motorways, to borders of barbed wire and cameras, the route to safety spans many landscapes.

To Be At Home: identity and belonging in a changing world: 25 January

This free public event will be held in Poverty Action Week, organised by Leicester Cathedral in partnership with DICE (Unit for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement) and Leicester Migration Network at the University of Leicester.

The event will highlight the work of organisations tackling poverty and homelessness here in Leicester. It will take place in the Rattray Lower Ground Floor Lecture Theatre, University Road, LE1 7RH from 6-8pm on Thursday 25 January. All are welcome, you can register to attend here.
