UK Space Agency appointment for Professor Richard Ambrosi

Professor Richard Ambrosi from our Department of Physics and Astronomy has been appointed as Chair of the UK Space Agency's Space Exploration Advisory Committee (SEAC) for the next three years.

This role will see Professor Ambrosi working with the UK Space Agency, members of SEAC, the space science community, industry and other advisory committees in helping to advise and shape the UK strategy and priorities for involvement in planetary exploration, microgravity and human exploration.

SEAC provides advice on the overall UK strategy and priorities for involvement in Aurora, planetary exploration and the microgravity ELIPS programme. Recent examples of SEAC input include the reviews of the Robotic Exploration Strategy, Aurora Science Announcement of Opportunity, Collaborative Research in Exploration Systems and Technology (CREST) Announcement of Opportunity, Knowledge Transfer Announcement of Opportunity and approval of lines for ESA Programme Board for Human Spaceflight, Microgravity and Exploration.

Professor Ambrosi said: “The Department of Physics and Astronomy is internationally recognised for scientific research and the development of technology in the fields of space and planetary science. Appointments to advisory committees like SEAC are a testament to the dynamic environment and the reputation of all of the staff at the University of Leicester working in space research.”
