Could you spare some time to help the Students’ Union knit 100 hats for refugees in Calais?

As the weather turns colder, this year’s elected student officers are calling on student and staff knitters to come together and help make hats for people who are stuck in the refugee camps around Calais.

Come along for an hour between 10am and 5pm on Wednesday 25 November in the Green Room of the Students’ Union (near the Santander Bank).

If you’re a keen knitter, then please come along, bring your knitting needles or crochet hooks, and make your own. If you don’t know how to knit, then come along and learn, they are asking experienced knitters to help those who are just starting out.

They are also appealing to family and friends of staff and students to help make hats in their own time if they can. Any hat pattern, size or yarn would be welcome, but a simple beanie would be great.

If you could donate any unwanted yarn or knitting pins for the appeal, or would like to volunteer on the day please contact Roisin Gallagher, the Students’ Union Wellbeing Officer.

If you can’t make it on Wednesday, why not join the University Knitting Group on Thursday 26 November between 5-7pm at the Attenborough Arts Centre, Lancaster Road for a hat-knitathon.
