The Research Data Management working group

The working group was established in 2012 to generate a number of deliverables relating to Research Data Management, including the RDM web presence.

Support for research data management –

We need input and feedback

It is intended that this website will grow and develop substantially from its initial state, providing more content, particularly discipline-specific and university-specific.

This website is not the responsibility of a particular university function – it has been created through the input of a number of people and principally the Research Computing Management Group Working Group - and to develop it needs to be fed by and grown by the community of researchers and others at the University.

Input and feedback is encouraged and required:

  • College or Departmental expertise, advice or support.
  • External resources we could add.
  • If you have developed support, advice or guidance which could be linked to or added to the site.
  • If there is new or changed information e.g. new funder requirements.

This should be directed to the Research Computing Management Group, or it’s Working Group via

Research Data Management Survey

Many thanks to everyone who responded to our survey on research data management needs in September 2015. We present results.

Many thanks to everyone who responded to our survey on research data management needs in September.   The findings highlight a number of areas where researchers would benefit from more co-ordinated and joined up University provision: from guidance on metadata creation, to clearer information about University services, and advice and support on how to comply with legal and ethical requirements.

Respondents identified their top five concerns as:

  1. a need for more RDM training and support
  2. services to guarantee long term digital preservation
  3. more and faster storage capacity
  4. greater interoperability between platforms
  5. RDM solutions that were easy to use.

We have our RDM survey: overview findings (pdf pdf) presentation as well as the results of our 2015 survey on Your research data management needs (pdf pdf)
