Make available in Blackboard

By default, recordings are not available to students to view. You need to take some action to allow your students to see a recording. You will receive an email when your recording is ready to share.

We recommend you use the email solely as a reminder but follow the steps below to make the recording available. However, you can click on the links in the email to allow you to view, edit and share the recording directly from the Panopto server.

Make the recording available

  1. Login to Blackboard and open the relevant course site. This must be the Blackboard course that you selected when you made your recording
  2. Click the 'Reflect' Recordings link in the course menu on the left
  3. Move your mouse over the recording and click the Publish option that appears
    Publish option

Disable discussion comments

By default, students are able to ask a question or make a comment about a recording. These will be visible to other staff and students watching the recording. If you don't want to enable this facility:

  1. Move your mouse over the recording and click the Settings option that appears
    Panopto settings
  2. Where it says Discussion, untick the box saying 'Allow viewers to post comments'
  3. Close the Settings window (there is no Save button).

Add a contextual link

It can be very useful for your students if you add links to your recordings in the same Blackboard folder as the other course materials, such as lecture slides and notes. This keeps all the material together and makes it easier for students to find the relevant information. To do this:

  1. Move to the area of your Blackboard course where you want to add the link to the recorded lecture
  2. Choose Tools > Panopto Video Link (if you don't see this option, follow the instructions below under Add the Panopto option)
    Blackboard Tools option
  3. Select the Panopto Folder for the current Blackboard course site
  4. Choose the lecture from the list (you may have to wait a few seconds after selecting the folder)
  5. You can change the Title that will appear in Blackboard and add a Description for your students
  6. Click Submit, then OK
  7. This will create a link to the recorded lecture. Students can click on the link to watch the lecture.

Embed a recording in Blackboard

You can embed a recording in Blackboard, for example if you want your students to watch a short video clip before answering questions in a test. To do this:

  1. In the text editor (for example in an Item or test Instructions), choose Mashups > Panopto video. If the Mashups option is not visible, click Show More on the top right first Show more.
    Mashups option
  2. Choose your video from the list by clicking in the checkbox next to it and click Insert Videos at the bottom of the page.

Add the Panopto option

If you don't see the Panopto Video Link option in your Tools menu, you need to make the tool available as follows:

  1. In your Blackboard course site, choose Control Panel > Customisation > Tool Availability
  2. Scroll down the list of tools to find Panopto Video Link
  3. Tick the box in the Available in Content Area column
  4. Click Submit
  5. You should now see the Panopto Video Link option in your Tools menu
