Useful resources

To help you make the most of Reflect, here are some resources to support you and your students.

How to use Reflect - handout
A step-by-step guide to print out and keep.

Information flyer for staff
These may be useful to print out and provide to all staff in your department.

Information flyer for students
You may like to make these flyers available to students in the first few weeks. You can either print them out and distribute them in lectures, or direct students to this website.

PowerPoint slides for start of lecture
Slides to add to the beginning of your lecture to remind students not to use their own devices to make recordings. These also include a reminder for students to register their attendance.

Reflect student induction presentation
Key messages for students about how they can use Reflect to enhance their studies.

Opt out card
Students may choose to opt out of being recorded. To make this as simple as possible, this amber card (to reflect the colour of the light indicator when paused) can be given to anyone who doesn't want their voice to be captured. If they ask a question they can hold up the card. This gives you the cue to pause the recording before they contribute to the session. This will save time having to edit out any contributions before publishing.

Text to include in your Blackboard course
To support your students you may wish to add some information about Reflect to your Blackboard course site. To save time, the following text can be copied and pasted. You may wish to amend this if you choose not to use the Panopto Video link.

Reflect is the University’s lecture capture service. Where you see the Reflect poster, teacher-led activities will be recorded. There will also be a green light at the front of the room to show you recording is taking place. These recordings aim to supplement your attendance and enhance learning.

In your Blackboard course you will see a link to Panopto Video – this is where you will find the recorded sessions once your tutor has made them available. For more information please visit the Reflect website or speak to your department about how the service will be used on your programme.
