Living Expenses

Students in University Accommodation BlockWhen you budget for your living expenses, you will need to take account of the costs for:

  • accommodation
  • food/clothes
  • transport
  • leisure/social activities

Depending on your programme, you are likely to also incur study-related costs associated with text books, equipment, and field trips.

You will need to decide how much you need to budget for your living expenses. It is difficult to say what living expenses students will incur as they vary according to each individual and students should investigate their likely living expenses before joining the University.

As a rough guide, we suggest you budget for living expenses of £7,500 - £7,800 a year if you will be living in Leicester.

The University's Accommodation Service can provide advice on University accommodation for postgraduates. Detailed information on accommodation and how to apply is also sent out to postgraduates with the offer of a place at the University.

There is a plentiful supply of reasonably-priced private accommodation to rent in the city. Unlike many universities, if you choose to live in private accommodation it is likely that you will be situated very close to the campus. Sulets is the University of Leicester Students' Union accommodation service which can help new students find good quality, reasonably priced housing.
