The three Colleges of the University of Leicester are pleased to offer two full-time funded postgraduate research studentships as part of our cross-college studentships scheme.  Each studentship includes a stipend at RCUK level and covers the fees over three years.  Each research student will be jointly supervised by one academic in the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (CSSAH) and another one in the College of Life Sciences (CLS) or the College of Science and Engineering (CSE).

Projects

The projects are:

 

CSSAH-CLS:

1. Supervisors: Caren Frosch (Neuroscience, Psychology and Behaviour) and Tony Cole (Leicester Law School)
Project: Expert and novice decision making in dispute resolution

2. Supervisors: Jessica Noske-Turner (Media, Communication and Sociology) and Douglas Tincello (Health Sciences)
Project: Communication for social change to reduce stigma of pelvic floor disorders in Amhara region, Ethiopia

 

CSSAH-CSE:

1. Supervisors: Fabian Frenzel (School of Business)  and Gavin Brown (Geography)
Project: Spatial Organization in Protest Camps

2. Supervisors: Andy Abbott (Chemistry) and Dimitris Papadopoulos (School of Business) 
Project: Antecedents and Emergence of Green and Sustainable Chemical Innovation

 

Please note that the four proposals listed above are not guaranteed funding – one of the two proposals for each Studentship will be funded, the other will not.

Funding

The studentship offers a Stipend at RCUK rates (£14,777 for 2018) and UK/EU fee waiver for 3 years.

*International applicants are welcome to apply but must be able to fund the difference between the UK/EU and International tuition fees for the duration of their studies.
International Tuition Fees may vary depending on the project.

Entry Requirements

  • First class or upper second class undergraduate degree OR an equivalent overseas qualification in a relevant subject
  • Standard English language requirements, where applicable.
  • Available for full-time study only
  • Applicants must be able to start in September 2018

  2. Prepare a research proposal of no more than 3000 words discussing your approach to the research topic and the research design of the project.

Additional Information

  • Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed by both project supervisors.
  • Appointments to be confirmed by the end of June 2018.
  • Applicants are required to commence in the academic year 2018/19.
  • Funding is available for new students only and existing PGR students are not eligible to apply.
