Protein (20)Proteins can be simple or complex molecules as can be seen from the image of a folded protein.

  • Proteins determine the characteristics of cells and are responsible for the structure and function of cells.
  • They enable interactions between cells and thus are responsible for the structure and function of bodies.
  • One particularly important class of proteins are enzymes, which promote the chemical reactions on which life depends.
