Excellent event - I would love more of this type of event it is so very useful.

We held our second HUB:BLE business engagement event (HUB:BLE-1) on the 6th June 2013 at the Curve Theatre, Leicester. It was attended by 121 delegates representing 74 SMEs and organisations within the East Midlands and beyond.

Very good event - as good as the first [HUB:BLE-0]!

The 1-2-1 sessions were packed - with many delegates giving feedback that the consultations were "very useful", "with helpful advice" providing delegates with "great ideas".

New for HUB:BLE-1 was our graduate fair.  Over a dozen companies have since sent us requests for graduates to be placed with them for up to three days.  The Space IDEAS Hub is currently identifying several suitable graduates to take up these opportunities.

Talks from the event are now available. Below is our Flirkr stream from the event.

Feedback From Delegates

"Excellent venue, friendly team, very well timed and organised."

"Great networking opportunity, friendly atmosphere, I would attend again."

Very good range of business support services were represented.  Thankyou - I look forward to the next one!

"See you at HUB:BLE-2!"

"Wide variety of sessions and speakers - so was very useful."

"Great advice on finance and very useful and helpful advice from IP, Marketing and Legal Advisors."

"I attended the funding and grants 1-2-1 sessions and found them extremely useful, with lots of good advice."

Look out for HUB:BLE-2 in the Autumn!

Call to Leicester students and SMEs to join UK Space Industry

Call to Leicester students and SMEs to join UK Space Industry

  • Calling local students and entrepreneurs with new ideas of how to use satellite data such as GPS in smart phone apps and location technologies
  • Financial backing and mentoring on offer to turn winning ideas into profitable businesses and services to help meet Government ambitions for a £40 billion UK space industry
  • Registrations for UK Satellite Navigation Competition University Challenge open here -  Registration Closes 31st June 2013

UK space and technology leaders are searching for local students, young researchers and SMEs with innovative ideas for the everyday use of space data in smart phone apps, location-based services and profitable new businesses. The UK Satellite Navigation Competition’s University Challenge is looking for local students and entrepreneurs, to give you the chance to prove your creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in return for some valuable business tips from the experts.

Dr Ed Chester, Project Manager at the University of Leicester’s Space IDEAS Hub said: "Space activities in Leicester are diverse, with growing business-focussed applications of space technology. Initiatives such as Space IDEAS Hub and G-STEP can help businesses leverage technologies and assets. The European Satellite Navigation Competition is a unique opportunity to get a whole package of support for your innovative idea. There is so much more scope for innovating in this sector and some potential applications, in gaming, in education, in policy work, in law, in finance, in resource management, in safety, in sports... there's almost no excuse for not having a great idea."

Doug Watson, UK Satellite Navigation Competition University Challenge organiser at the University of Nottingham said: “The UK’s commercial space sector, and especially the part linked to satellite data, represents a great opportunity for Leicester students and researchers to start their own business. In running the University Challenge, we are not looking for satellite experts or established space industry leaders. Instead the best business ideas we come across are from people with their own area of interest and personal expertise, whether its farming, fishing or football, who have seen the benefits satellite navigation data could bring to this community. These are the people we are hoping will enter their ideas into our competition.”
