Summer Schools

Museum Studies Summer School - 10 to 14 June 2019

We are delighted to offer 2 free places to attend our Museum Studies Summer School event. This event brings together our international groups of distance learning students to the University campus, and offers 5 full days of activities, workshops and discussions.

The Museum Studies Summer School is open to those with an interest in museums, heritage, community identities and how we interpret histories. A brief overview of the week is as follows:

Monday – a welcome session, discussions about museums, and chance to get to know staff in the School of Museum Studies.

Tuesday – a workshop session on research, and chance to meet staff working in museums across the UK at a ‘speed tutoring’ event. We will also have a preparation session for the visit the following day.

Wednesday – A visit by coach to Calke Abbey in Derbyshire, an historic property owned by the National Trust, and some creative activities while we are there.

Thursday – A workshop with staff at New Walk Musem around the redevelopment of their Egyptology Gallery. A lecture on ‘respectful displays’ and more discussion activities with students and staff.

Friday – A workshop on activist museum practice, a skills session on research projects and a closing lecture on art museums and galleries.

To indicate your interest in this opportunity, please get in touch with Phil Horspool (ph25@leicester.ac.uk) or complete our booking form.
