The British Library has announced that the Book of Durrow (Trinity College Library, Dublin, MS 57) will be coming to the UK for the Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms exhibition, which opens on 18 October.

Dr Erin Dailey takes up a lectureship in early medieval history at Leicester, replacing Jo Story's teaching role for the period of her BA/LT Senior Research Fellowship.

Teresa Porciani, MA (Pisa), joins the Insular Manuscript team in Leicester on the Erasmus + internship scheme for four months, until December 2018. Teresa is an early medieval art historian, and will be helping to augment the project database and bibliography with specialist information.

Jo Story has been awarded a British Academy / Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship for a year beginning on 01 September 2018. This will create time for her to deliver a number of projects, including this one and the events associated with the forthcoming British Library exhibition.

A new exhibition opens at the Stiftsbibliothek in St Gallen, Switzerland: The Cradle of European Culture: Early Medieval Irish Book Art. It runs from 13 March to 4 November 2018.

The British Library has announced major loans for the Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms exhibition which opens in October 2018, including Codex Amiatinus which will be making its return journey to England 1302 years after it left Wearmouth-Jarrow in 716!

Jo Story has won funding for a research studentship under the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Programme for a project on 'Franco-Saxon manuscripts in the ninth century'. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Jo Story (UoL) and Dr Kathleen Doyle (The British Library).

Some good news to start 2017: our CI, Dr Claire Breay has been awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List, for ’services to Medieval History’. Info on page 48 here.
This is enormously well deserved, and a huge credit to Claire’s hard work – on the Magna Carta project most recently but for much, much more than that. Congratulations, Claire!
