16/12/09 - HERO project

Students from around the county visited GENIE to take part in hands-on health related activities as part of the HERO project. The students took part in activities such as a race through the digestive system, finding out how much salt/sugar is in popular foods and how diet relates to cancer. 07/11/09 - Charles Darwin

The Leicester Institute of Genetics and Genome Sciences, and GENIE hosted a one-day event to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth and the 25th anniversary of the discovery of DNA fingerprinting. More details about the event.

Prof. Annette Cashmore and Dr. Chris Cane attended the ISSOTL Conference in Bloomington Indiana. More information about the conference can be found on the conference website.

15/10/09 - Radiation Research

GENIE sponsored a one day Radiation Research meeting/workshop which aimed to bring together radiation researchers from across the University.

30/09/09 - Genetics Taster Session

16-17/09/09 - Dynamic DNA

Around 600 year 9 students from across the midlands visited the University on 16th and 17th September 2009 to take part in this year's Dynamic DNA. GENIE's fourth annual event was the biggest and best ever. Read more about this event.

24-28/08/09 - Advanced Light Microscopy

10-17/07/09 - Gondar Visit

Dr Mark Goodwin and Dr Geetha Narayanan, both members of the GENIE team visited the University of Gondar in Ethiopia as part of the University's ongoing links with the University. Read more about the visit.

25/04/09 - Family Fun Day

GENIE jointly hosted a Family Fun and Learn Day at Moat Community College in Leicester. Linked to our National Science and Engineering Week activities, approximately two thousand people attended the event, which aimed to promote health and science in the local community. 23/04/09 - Ethiopian Ambassador Visit to GENIE

At the invitation of GENIE, the University of Leicester’s Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Genetics, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the UK, Berhanu Kebede, visited the University to meet with members of the University involved in a link between the Universities of Leicester and Gondar (northern Ethiopia). 11/03/09 - Find Life on Mars

Students from local Sixth Form's visited the University during National Science and Engineering Week to discover 'How to find Life on Mars'. The event was jointly organised by the University of Leicester Departments of Physics, Engineering, Chemistry and GENIE.

11/03/09 - Cancer Awareness Event

GENIE co-hosted a very successful "Cancer Awareness Evening", with Hope Against Cancer which was sponsored by AstraZeneca. Attended by head teachers, nurses and Hope Trustees, this was the first of a series of events GENIE has planned with Hope Against Cancer.

14/03/09 - Reaching out to Science

23/02/09 - Genetics and Ethic Minorities

GENIE and local partners hosted an event to raise awareness of long term genetic conditions within Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities in Charnwood. The event consisted of presentations and workshops.
