Dr. Geetha Narayanan attended the Australian International Education Conference in Brisbane, Australia and gave a talk entitled "The challenges of international students on taught MSc programmes".

11/09/08 - Workshop on Basic Genetics

GENIE hosted a free workshop on Basic Genetics and Common Genetic Conditions for people within the voluntary sector who work with individuals or families with a genetic conditions.

10-11/09/08 - Outreach in Collaboration Conference

GENIE CETL, CELS CETL (Centre for Effective Learning in Science) and the Higher Education Academy Physical Sciences Subject Centre jointly hosted the Outreach in Collaboration Conference at Nottingham Trent University.

8-10/09/08 - Southern African Conference

Dr. Paul Green gave a talk at the 1st Southern African Conference on the First-year Experience 2008, held in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

15-16/07/08 - Seminar for Year 11 Students

08/07/08 - Gold Award for GENIE Training Video

For the second year running, a GENIE training video, produced to help teach laboratory techniques to biological sciences students, received a Gold Award from the Health & Science Communications Association (HeSCA).

02/07/08 - New Tool for Secondary School Biology Teachers

BioethicsBytes team announced the arrival of a new tool to help teachers of secondary school biology for 14 to 18 year olds in England and Wales.

Professor Annette Cashmore, Dr. Chris Cane, Dr. Cas Kramer and Dr. Mark Goodwin attended and gave presentations at the Higher Education Academy Annual Conference "Transforming the student experience" in Harrogate.

26/06/08 - Annette Cashmore awarded National Teaching Fellowship Award

Professor Annette Cashmore, Director of the GENIE CETL received a prestigious National Teaching Fellowship award. Professor Cashmore is the fifth member of University of Leicester Faculty to receive such an award.

17-18/06/08 - CPD course

5/06/08 - Genetics in the Community on Asian Radio

Heena Patel and members of the team from the Department of Clinical Genetics at the Leicester Royal Infirmary were guests on the Asian radio station Sabras Radio (1260 AM) talking about the 'Genetics in the Community' project.

4-5/06/08 - SOLSTICE Conference

Dr. Mark Goodwin attended the 3rd International SOLSTICE Conference (eLearning and Learning Environments for the Future) at Edge Hill University, where he gave a talk entitled "Promoting collaboration in the collection, evaluation and development of learning resources"

30/05/08 - International Workshop on Genetics

Heena Patel attended the International Workshop on Genetics, History and Public Understanding, in Barcelona, Spain, where she presented a talk on the subject of Genetics in the community.

23/05-06/06 2008 - Outreach for Year 6

GENIE hosted a number of outreach events for Year Six children, in association with Primary Partnerships. The participants learned about DNA and how it can be used to solve a crime. For more details, contact Dr. Cas Kramer.

15-23/05 2008 - Gondar Visit

Dr. Mark Goodwin, visited the University of Gondar in Ethiopia, as part of his ongoing involvement with the Gondar Project.

17-18/04/08 - CETL Network Conference

8-14/03/08 - National Science and Engineering Week

GENIE hosted a number of events as part of National Science and Engineering Week. Events included a "Science Open Day", "DNA and Proteins" day for year 7 children, jointly with the Department of Chemistry, and "Cafe Biotechnique" an evening event for A-Level Biology students to discuss the latest developments in biomedical science.
