Steve Dibnah

Conference Welcome and Introduction

Steve Dibnah is the Project Coordinator for THE ISSUE Project. He has over 20 years’ experience as a senior economic development and regeneration professional, working in both the public and private sector. This includes senior management experience leading successful economic development and regeneration departments in the public sector as well as managing complex multi-million pound European and Nationally funded projects and programmes; project planning and delivery; policy, strategy and action plan formulation; and partnership development.

Councillor Rory Palmer

Welcome on Behalf of The City of Leicester

Councillor Rory Palmer is Deputy City Mayor for Leicester City with additional responsibility for transport and climate change. In this role he currently holds responsibility for the delivery of sustainable transport, improving the city transport and connectivity, traffic management, and ongoing work to tackle climate change through the reduction of harmful emissions.

Professor Alan Wells

THE ISSUE Project Overview

Professor Alan Wells is THE ISSUE scientific advisor and is bringing a lifetime of experience in applications of space related research to THE ISSUE project. He was appointed as the Founding Director of the University of Leicester’s Space Research Centre, a position which he held until 2003. He was also instrumental in the development and creation of the National Space Centre.  During his time at Leicester, Professor Wells worked on ten space missions including NASA’s SWIFT mission to observe gamma ray bursts. Professor Wells is now the NEREUS Representative for the East Midlands Region.

Pia Laurila

Regions of Knowledge Overview

Pia Laurila is the Project Officer for THE ISSUE for the European Commission. She currently has particular interest in Programme Coordination for 2012 in the current call relating to ‘Urban Europe, Global Urban Challenges, Joint European Solutions’.
