About GMES

GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) is a flagship EC/ESA programme which represents a concerted effort to bring data and information providers together with users, so they can better understand each other and make environmental and security-related information available to the people who need it through enhanced or new services.

GMES

GMES logoThe GMES programme applies data from satellite, aerial and ground-based earth observation to information and decision-making products and services.

GMES is an emerging information technology, potentially providing novel commercial applications, enabling more efficient and informative systems in many priority industrial sectors both locally and nationally.

In the medium term, GMES represents a paradigm shift in the information and service market, in a manner similar to that already being achieved with global satellite navigation and positioning.
