services and solutions to meet the needs of companies and government organisations.

G-STEP can:

  • provide a tailored service for businesses by identifying client needs and demonstrating possible solutions using Earth Observaton services (satellite, aerial, ground monitoring data).

  • broker existing solutions to provide immediate access to a broad range of applications for both specialist and non-Earth Observation companies.

  • provide direct access for SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) and public sector organisations to the region’s world-class GMES knowledge base in Earth Observation research. 

  • set up collaborative projects and provide support to develop new products and services or innovative new applications.

  • place high-quality graduates into regional SMEs working on industry led-problems, assisting job creation and increasing prospects of long term employment.

  • develop and deliver tailored training, awareness and easy service access to support EO/GMES technology in the East Midlands community.

  • provide increased access for East Midlands organisations with National and European business opportunities through G-STEP support for proposals and funding bids and G-STEP events.

  • encourage and support the development of new business in the region utilising Earth Observation Technologies.


aatsr_lst-uk-18th_cropped.jpgeurope_no2total20060718_cropped.jpgGMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) is a flagship, multi-billion-euro EC/ESA programme and G-STEP is the first GMES accelerator initiative in the UK.  G-STEP will exploit GMES technologies utilising the substantial expertise and knowledge established within the University of Leicester's wide ranging scientific programmes in Earth Observation Science (EOS). Accessing this pool of Earth Observation (EO) innovation experts and the wider ranging academic expertise will advance business innovation and economic competitiveness specifically in the East Midlands but also Nationally and Internationally.

 EOS image of earthG-STEP is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through EMDA (East Midlands Development Agency), the Leicester Shire Economic Partnership (now Prospect Leicestershire) and the University of Leicester. G-STEP was established in 2009 to support business and public sector organisations in the use of state-of-the-art Earth Observation information technology. The exploitation of this technology will have a major impact on business operations and competitiveness.
