History

With a national focus on patient safety and healthcare quality, following reports led by Francis, Berwick, Kirkup and others, organisations and staff within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland wished to work together to improve care for patients. The need to coordinate and connect those doing and studying improvement work and their expertise, energy, and enthusiasm was clear.  This is the role that LIIPS seeks to fill.

Following a scoping and consultation programme in early 2014, and a stakeholder event in June 2014, LIIPS was established to run for a set-up year, funded mainly by Mary Dixon-Woods’ Wellcome Trust Investigator award and by the University of Leicester Prospects Fund.

All five NHS organisations and all three academic organisations in the county were invited to form LIIPS and nominate representatives for its Steering Group and Core Development Group (CDG). The Steering Group and the CDG have met regularly since January 2015.
