The Free Legal Advice Clinic

The University of Leicester Legal Advice Clinic is open during term time* every Wednesday from 2pm – 4pm and Thursday from 7pm – 9pm for all students, staff and the public.


The Legal Advice Clinic is a free service offered by Law students, academics and local professionals.

 To book an appointment, please email lawadviceclinic@leicester.ac.uk and request an ‘Initial Client Details’ form.

 Please note, to book an appointment for the upcoming week, you will need to have sent the completed ‘Initial Client Details’ form by the Saturday before your requested interview so our team can adequately research your issue.

 Additionally, if you are unable to attend a face-to-face appointment, we might be able to offer you a telephone interview. To do this, just email us in the same manner; request an ‘Initial Client Details’ form and submit you would like a telephone interview!

 The clinic provides legal advice in several areas of law which we believe may prove to be relevant for our potential clients; e.g.

  • Landlord and Tenancy Law
  • Employment Law
  • Contractual Disputes
  • The Clinic cannot advise on actions against the University of Leicester, Criminal Law, and Personal Injury cases. 
  • The Clinic cannot advise against issues that have already been to court, are going to court, or you have already / are seeking legal help from a practising firm at the time of the interview.

 *Please note the Legal Advice Clinic will not be able to take appointments throughout the third semester due to the fact our advisors will be sitting their exams.

 About the Clinic 

 The concept of Pro Bono work is a global initiative with the intention of providing free and impartial legal advice to those in need.  

We ensure that our advisors are competent and all sessions are supervised by legal academics or professionals; further enhancing the possibility of solving each of our clients’ problems.   

In the event that a client presents a problem which does not fall within one of our areas of competence our advisors will make a referral to a local solicitor specialising in the area of law concerned. 

It should be noted that sometimes it is not possible to provide a solution to your problem at the initial interview; however, a second meeting will be scheduled at a convenient date for you where advice will be issued and explained fully. 

A letter detailing the advice you received will be sent to you shortly after each meeting to ensure that problems will not be caused due to the information being misunderstood or forgotten.
