Hardship Fund

Hardship Fund

This is discretionary support provided by the University of Leicester to assist if you are experiencing financial hardship. Awards are income assessed, intended to help you with day-to-day expenses and course related costs if you are a Home/EU student.

The Fund can assist if you face higher costs as a result of issues impacting on your life (such as ill-health, disability, and dependents), and with unexpected and exceptional costs such as unplanned relocation; the result of a family bereavement; temporary injury; pregnancy; victim of crime, etc.

If you feel you might qualify, we recommend you speak to an Adviser in the Welfare Service to discuss your situation. Alternatively, you can complete the below forms and submit these directly to our service at welfare@le.ac.uk.

Part-Time Students

International students

The University has a limited fund available for international students experiencing financial hardship. This is because there is an expectation and requirement that international students will have made realistic provision to cover their course fees and living costs before they start their course.

International students would be considered if they demonstrate a significant or unforeseen change in their circumstances during their course which may impact upon their financial resources. A one off exceptional living cost award of £100 or a one off exceptional hardship award of a maximum of £500 will be considered once a full financial review has taken place. A full financial review will include completion of the international hardship fund application form which is signed and dated, with three months bank statements and evidence of a tenancy agreement.

If you feel you meet this criteria, please, please download the form.
