Why be a Course Rep?

Course Reps will provide an honest view of the teaching and learning quality and help create positive change on your course.

trainingCourse Reps are an integral part of the Students' Union and a great way for you to get involved in improving the student experience by representing your course mates and influencing positive changes to teaching and learning in your school/department/programme. It involves you getting to know your peers, asking them about their experience in terms of what's great and what could be improved and then working to find solutions with staff at the Student-Staff Committee (SSC), a termly committee meeting that all academic representatives and staff representatives attend.

Course Reps are fully trained and supported in the role by Students' Union staff and Officers, so no prior experience is necessary! You'll also get the opportunity to join some great events and activities throughout the year.

In essence … you will:

  • Have your say on how your course is run

A Course Rep will represent students on their course for all manner of academic related issues – giving each student a “voice” for their course and an official route through which opinions and concerns can be raised.

  • Make Improvements to your course and give feedback to the staff in your department

It’s the Course Rep’s job to talk to other students to find out what would improve their course and then feed that back to University staff through Staff/Student Committee Meetings (SSC), therefore it is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in improving your course and your department by raising and constructively debating issues at departmental level:

  • Assessment and feedback
  • Learning and teaching
  • National Student Survey
  • Learning resources
  • Curriculum
  • Delivery of teaching
