The Sport & Active Life service have put together a number of events for staff to engage with over the next 12 months, these events are targeted at getting staff engaged in some light hearted physical activity whilst enjoying some social interaction amongst other colleagues. There are various other opportunities for Staff of the University of Leicester to get involved in sport whether that be on a recreational or competitive level, the opportunities available are:

 

Badminton - Staff Team - The Departmental Staff Common Room (DSCR) Badminton Club meet:

  • Fridays at Roger Bettles Sports Centre, Oadby, 6pm - 8pm
  • Tuesdays at Charles Wilson Sports Hall, 12.30pm - 1.30pm

All staff and postgraduate students are invited for mix-in play.

Football - The University Staff Team - Leicester Academicals compete in a local Sunday league, with homes games being played at The Roger Bettles Sports Centre (Manor Road). To get involved or find out more please contact Jit Liladhar.

Staff/PostGrad 5 a-side football - There is a weekly 5 a-side league which takes place in the Charles Wilson Sports Hall every Wednesday during term time between 12 noon and 2pm. If you would like to get involved then please email Lewis Jones to request a team entry or to find out more information.

Cricket - The University of Leicester have a Staff team who have 3 teams on hand to compete throughout the weekends of the cricket season. More information can be found here.

Staff are also able to enter the Intramural Sport Cricket League which take place Indoor during the winter and Outdoor during the summer.

Golf - The Leicester University Golf Society (LUGS) provides staff with the opportunity to play Golf with likeminded members of the University across various courses and in lots of different tournaments/events.

Tennis - There are a number of sessions available to members of staff through the Recreational Tennis Programme. These session are free with a gymPark Run membership or alternatively a £125 tennis membership can be purchased to take part in these sessions throughout the year.

parkun - Is a FREE weekly timed 5km run which takes place on Victoria Park every Saturday morning at 9am. For more information on this weekly event please visit -http://www.parkrun.org.uk/leicestervictoria/

Circuits - The Charles Wilson Sports Hall hosts 3 weekly circuits classes:

Monday Cardio-Vascular Circuit

Circuit 12:30pm - 1:00pm

Tuesday Strength Circuit Circuit 12:30pm - 1:00pm
Thursday Cardio-Vascular Circuit

Circuit 12:30pm - 1:00pm

Circuits

Team Leicester - Staff may be aware that the University of Leicester has competitive student sports clubs who compete in BUCS on a weekly basis, however staff are also able to join these clubs and participate in non student competitions such as local league, friendly fixtures and tournaments. Lets Do Leicester - For the first time since the project started back in 2013, Staff are now able to take part in the sessions delivered by Lets Do Leicester. More information about the project and the schedule available on the Lets Do Leicester page.

Recreational Events - Please check the Recreational Events page to keep up to date with a number of opportunities to get involved in.

Netball - Fun, Social session delivered by staff from around the University. All abilities welcome, whether you’ve never played netball before, haven’t played since primary school or are a Netball enthusiast, all members of staff are welcome. You don’t need any special kit, just clothes that you feel comfortable exercising in and trainers ideally that lace up. Make sure you bring some water Sessions on Tuesday 5-6pm in the Danielle Brown Sports Centre
