If you, like most of us, watch Euro 2016 bored out of your mind at the lack of goals, screaming for Jamie Vardy start and begging for Harry Kane to stay away from set pieces then we have the club for you. The Men’s Football Club is one of the largest clubs the University has to offer with over 70 members last year and is always hungry for more keen footballers. With four teams competing within BUCS leagues there is a full range of abilities so all are welcome to test their skills against fellow students.

With highly qualified coaches the club are looking to progress from mixed success over the last few years, and most importantly win back the bragging rights from local rivals DMU. The club is also one of the most socially active in the University, even welcoming social members who just want to enjoy a good chat about their favourite sport. Club members are also very active within the Intramural Sports programme meaning there will be plenty of opportunities for a quick kick about to break up your university work. With a large number of members over the full range of years there the club is a fantastic way for new students to make new friends and get some advice from the older students.

We kicked a few questions over to Club Captain Sam Hogg who pinged some answers back into us.

Who are you?

My name is Sam Hogg, Club Captain of the Men’s Football Club, the famous ULFC.

How has university sport improved your university experience as a whole?

Being involved in the football club has made my time at University a lot more enjoyable. I have become mates with people from different years who have been there for advice, which was especially helpful during first year. Football has also helped fill out spare time at University and provided a good break from studying.

What is your favourite memory from your time being part of Team Leicester?

My favourite memory was during my first year. The 2nd team were in a cup final and the score was 2-2 with a couple of minutes left. A lad who had never scored a goal for 3 years scored the winner with literally the last kick of the game and the whole club invaded the pitch to celebrate!

What would you say to someone who is unsure of joining Team Leicester?

I'd say to someone who was unsure that you’re only at university for a few years and you should spent it doing something you enjoy. If that is football, then ULFC is the best place for it, you won't regret it. We also welcome social members to the club, it's not all about ability, we are a club that welcomes everyone who want to be a part of it!

In one sentence why should someone join your club?

Over 70 members, weekly fixtures, high quality coaching, 4 teams, weekly socials, tour, varsity, all this and more when you join one the biggest, best and most historic clubs in the University.

If you’re interested in joining the Men’s Football Club be sure to find them at Fresher’s Fair 2016 in Queens Hall, located in the Percy Gee Building. Alternatively get in contact with them via their Facebook page ‘University of Leicester Men’s Football Team’, or through their Twitter ‘@UoLFC’.
