The University of Leicester Stoughton Road Playing Fields held the annual County Team Leicestershire Football Finals.

For the first time, the Team Leicestershire Boys & Girls Football Finals were held at Stoughton Road playing fields in Oadby; an expansive and picturesque setting owned by the University of Leicester.

It was clear to see that the unprecedented success of Leicester City Football Club has played a part in inspiring young people across Leicestershire, Leicester City & Rutland as a total of 16 teams participated in the Team Leicestershire Football Finals.

The Boys Football Finals took place on the 4th May and were successfully followed by the Girls Football Finals on the 5th May as around 300 spectators attended the event over the two days.

Secretary of the Leicestershire & Rutland Schools FA, Steve Abson, recognised that the event was a “tremendous success and, luckily, good weather as well,”

“Team Leicestershire is a new way of organising school sport in the city and county, and, after a few teething problems in the first year, is proving to be a most successful project under Geoff Maltby's watchful eye. I believe it will grow and grow.”

With discussions already underway following the triumph of this year’s Team Leicestershire Boys & Girls Football Finals, the University of Leicester looks forward to the possibility of accommodating further competitive school sport fixtures at Stoughton Road playing fields.
