Congratulations to Munashe Fumhanda on his 2018 England Universities Rugby League selection. Yesterday afternoon England Universities Rugby League announced that Munashe Fumhanda a third year Pharmaceutical Chemistry (MChem) student at the University of Leicester had been selected as part of a 26-strong team of the country’s leading University Rugby League Players.

Richard Tate, England Universities Head Coach explained that the 26-strong squad selected from fifteen institutions across the country “will face stern tests in the RFL’s Presidents Cup against GB Police, GB Teachers and UK Armed Forces Rugby League as well as two Student Rugby League Matches against New Zealand”

Richard also eluded to the selection process stating that:
“There are always going to be some tough decisions to make when selecting this squad, as the calibre of players in the University Rugby League is growing year by year- I’m really looking forward to working with these players and excited to see what this group can achieve this year”

After his selection was announced Munashe commented:

“It’s an honour to have been selected for the England squad this year. Being the only Leicester student to be picked for the squad in the 3 years I’ve been here as well as being part of a handful of students from the University to have been selected for International teams makes it even more special.

Hopefully this will help Team Leicester grow and attract students by demonstrating there are pathways through to representative sport”

Munashe will now prepare for his first squad training weekend in early March whilst continuing with his academic commitments.
