Wednesday 10th May saw over 900 staff and students from the University pile into The Athena for Sports Awards 2017. This year’s ceremony saw the largest number of attendees on record, with tickets for the evening selling out in record time. Following an incredible year for sport at the University the ceremony presented a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the successes we have witnessed.

The evening consisted of a mixture of food, awards and some fantastic performances from the University’s Big Band. This year we were thrilled to be joined by some of the University’s senior staff, including the President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Boyle. Many of our honoured guests took to the stage to present some of the coveted awards on the night. As the nominees for each award were reeled off you could feel the anticipation build as individuals, teams and clubs hoped that their hard work this year would be rewarded.

The Sport & Active Life service would like to extend our gratitude to all those who have helped to make this year arguably the greatest ever for sport at the University. With more students than ever before involved and a great number of individual, team and club successes this year we have seen sport excel to levels beyond anything we could have hoped for. To those of you who are leaving us this year we wish you all the very best for the future, and we look forward to seeing our returning students next year for what we hope to be an even more successful one for sport at Leicester.
