Gold Scholar wins Gold in Rio

University Gold Sports Scholar, travels to Rio de Janeiro for 2016 Paralympic Wheelchair Rugby test event.

The excitement for the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games is gradually increasing with less than 200 days to go until the International event. Organisers of the world renowned competition held a test event throughout February in which Gold Scholar Nicholas Cummins had the opportunity to attend in Rio de Janeiro. The test event allowed for organisers to test out venues, facilities and generic logistics in the run up to the events this summer. The test event allowed for four teams to compete against each other and provide players with vital experience and an opportunity to showcase their talents.

Nic who is a part of the GB Wheelchair Rugby team qualified for the event as European champions along with Asia-Oceania champions Australia, America’s champions, Canada and the hosts Brazil. The rugby wheelchair test event consisted of a round-robin tournament with each team playing each other twice.

GB putting on an exceptional performance winning 5 out of 6 games, with just 1 loss against Australia and which secured them 1 a Gold medal in the tournament for 1st place.
