Coach Richardson attends England U17’s and U18’s Rugby Union Training Camp

Last weekend, coach George Richardson, University of Leicester Men’s Rugby Union coach attended England Rugby Unions U17 & U18 training camp in Bristol as part of a continuous professional development opportunity organised by the Rugby Football Union coach development programme. With the training camp being held in Bristol to bring together the highest upcoming talent that this country has to offer.

On his return to Leicester following the camp, George explained; “I was given the opportunity to attend the camp by the head of Leicester Tigers Junior academy; Jamie Taylor and England U18's Coach Russell Earnshaw”.

George also identified how he very much appreciated this development experience giving him a; “fantastic insight into how the top coaches perform and how they get the best out of the players so that they can perform at their optimal. As well as taking away numerous training games and drills, I have also learnt about how to adapt my coaching style to suit the psychological, physiological and social aspects of each individual player”

Alongside his coaching duties and ambitions, George is also a Rugby Union referee. Whilst at the camp he was invited to referee a live training session.

With the annual Varsity fixture only a week away, followed by the University of Leicester being involved in BUCS playoff games for a place in the BUCS Premier B league for next season, George will be looking to get the best out of the university team in their remaining games.
