Sports and Recreation Support Anthony Nolan Fundraiser

Staff from Sports and Recreation supported Marie Muir from the Career Development Service to host a charity netball tournament in the Charles Wilson Sports Hall on Saturday 16th April.

Marie is running the London Marathon on the 24th April to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust, a charity that has been raising its profile in Leicestershire. Marie said, 'I was really moved by the Rik Basra 'Pass it on Campaign' and wanted to do something to help raise awareness and raise some money.'

Marie worked closely with Elizabeth Jennings and Lewis Jones from the Sport and Recreation department to put together a tournament plan, fixture list and helped make sure that the facilities were suitable for the event. 'I had never run an event like this before - so I really couldn't have done it without them' said Marie.
The mixed netball tournament saw over 40 people attend with mixed abilities and with mixed experience of netball. The tournament saw six teams battle it out throughout the afternoon and the team captained by Gemma Rumble from Blaby Netball were eventually crowned champions.Marie - Netball Tournament

The event raised £467.10 for charity, and Marie has now exceeded the £1850 target set by Anthony Nolan.
