University of Leicester, third year Psychology & Cognitive Neuroscience student, Francis Ojemere competed in the -83kg weight class at the British University Men’s Powerlifting Championships in Northampton, over the weekend of the 24th March.

During the championships, Francis set a new British University Squat Record, squatting 255kg. He followed the squat record with a 135kg Bench press and a 290kg Deadlift, totalling 680kg at 81.7kg bodyweight, securing 2nd place in his weight class.

Following his record breaking success, Francis referred to the preparation and support he has gone through and been given, prior to and during the championships. “A lot of sacrifices have gone into preparing for this competition. Hours and hours of tough training and dedication to my nutrition are only part of it, but I’m happy it’s all paid  off. I’ve qualified to enter the British Nationals later on this year. I’m nowhere near satisfied just yet though, I intend to put on an even better performance on the national stage. I can't thank my colleagues, friends and coach enough for the help they've given me to help me get to this point” (Francis, pictured right with him medal and trophy).
