Leicester Academy

What is Leicester Academy?

The Leicester Academy is the  central hub for sport related coaching, officiating and volunteering opportunities at the University. Students are able to volunteer in a range of sporting environments, enhancing their transferable skills and positively impacting their local community.

Student volunteers are able to volunteer over an 8-12 week period, delivering sports sessions in local primary schools and colleges. These students are provided with multi-skills training to give them the basic knowledge needed to deliver high-quality, inclusive sports sessions to young people in local primary schools and colleges, before starting their 8-12 week placement. Students can also gain subsidised coaching/officiating qualifications in a sport of their choice.

Opportunities are also available for those who are not able to commit to weekly sessions, such as volunteering at the Leicester Town & Gown 10k. These events will be messaged out fortnightly to those who have registered their interest.

As part of the Academy you will develop many key transferrable skills that employers are crying out for, such as leadership, communication, planning and organising. Furthermore, the Leicester Academy is HEAR accredited and a fast track to completing the Leicester Award.

The Leicester Academy Festival

Leicester Academy Activator 2

At the end of the year, the Leicester Academy Festival is held at the University, where primary school students are invited to Campus, to take part in a day filled with learning and sports activities. The children are given a chance to experience a glimpse of life at the university, explore the campus and enjoy an array of sporting activities. The 2018 Festival saw 100 school children visit in our biggest and best Festival to date.
